Best use of a power station year 2000
Tate Modern Gallery opened in the spring of 2000 in an old power station south of the Thames in London. The spacious building gives the museum a huge framework, and the opening exhibition knew how to make use of it. Whether the premises is equally suitable for smaller pieces remains to be seen. Often the buildings that house collections are just as interesting as the art; Musée d’Orsay in Paris and the National Gallery’s East Wing in Washington are just two examples.
