Dulsori's drumming dervish

Sunday we went to listen to the drummers of Dulsori at Seoul Arirang, one of the many initiatives that Seoul offers its foreign population. The festival took place at the Namsangol Traditional Village, just below the big park.

First I had planned to show the female drummers, who are awesome, but this guy... he whirls, bangs his brass cymbal, jumps, dances and generally defies gravity. The audience loved him.

The drumming band Dulsori hosted the festival, which included flag making, flag fighting, dances, tug-of-war and a lot of screaming by the participating expats.

Dulsori will go to Britain, Bulgaria, Ireland, Norway, Belgium and France on tour later this year. Currently, other parts of the troupe is touring Africa and Israel.

If you get the chance, you have to listen (and see!) these hard working drummers, singers and dancers. The energy they project will stay with you for a long time!

I'll be looking out for them, I enjoyed the (mostly female) Japanese troupe I saw here. I must say I also love the Indian drums which were in evidence at Bharati on Saturday night (http://qaminante.blogspot.com/2006/04/bharati.html) - and even better, because the drummers were on platforms at the front of the stage, at Bombay Dreams which I saw a couple of years ago in London.
